KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) A northeast Kansas man was sentenced to a year of house arrest and five years of probation for not paying income taxes on money he earned while working as a consultant in Iraq.
U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said in a news release that Gregory S. Light, 43, of Louisburg was sentenced Monday after he pleaded guilty to one count of tax evasion.
Prosecutors say while Light worked as a subcontractor in Iraq with his own company he did not report salary he was paid in cash. He bought money orders with the cash and kept them in a safe deposit box in the United States.
Light didn’t report a total of $313,781 in income and failed to pay $81,886 in income taxes.
