Riley County Extension held its 26th Annual Garden Tour Sunday, which featured six locations around town including the KSU Gardens.

“For the Tour, 75 degrees and sunny with the occasional cloud cover. It’s just a beautiful day,” said Scott McElwain, director of the KSU Gardens.

The KSU Gardens features a cottage garden, which is full of perennials and woody ornamentals, as well as fruits, vegetables and herbs. An adaptive native garden is also a featured part of the KSU Gardens.

The five other locations on tour belonged to members of K-State and Riley County’s Master Gardener Program, an educational opportunity for avid gardeners to learn more about growing and caring for plants.

Looking ahead, McElwain said construction will soon be underway to significantly expand the size of the gardens.

“We’re very excited about it, because next year our gardens will almost be doubled in size.”

Proceeds from the Annual Garden Tour benefit the KSU Gardens.
