(earlier reports)
An armed Manhattan woman who barricaded herself into her house and caused a nearly 8-hour standoff with police has been taken into custody Monday night.
The woman came out of the home unarmed and was cooperative after several tense attempts.
As KMAN first reported Monday morning, police in Riley County responded to the area surrounding the 3300 block of Shady Valley Drive outside of the city limits of Manhattan at approximately 10 a.m.
This response came after police received a report of a female brandishing a firearm in the backyard of the residence and firing multiple rounds.
Officers arrived on scene and found that the adult female had gone inside of her home and barricaded herself inside. Police made contact with her via telephone and communicated with her for several hours.
Scanner reports indicate the woman was mentally disturbed at the time of the incident. She repeatedly asked officers to shoot her and there were concerns she was cutting herself. She had also allegedly lost a boyfriend to suicide in November, as well.
At 7:53 p.m., police announced the area was once again open to traffic.
No injuries were reported and the name of the woman has yet to be officially released.
The RCPD was assisted by the Junction City Police Department, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Riley County Emergency Management, and Riley County EMS during this incident.
The RCPD was also assisted by the American Red Cross, which provided accommodations for displaced residents and law enforcement personnel during the incident.

UPDATE 2:27 p.m. from RCPD Public Information Officer Mat Droge:
Earlier today the RCPD Dispatch Center received a call stating that there was a female brandishing a firearm in the backyard of a residence in the 3300 block of Shady Valley Drive. It was immediately reported that shots had been fired toward her home prior to her going back inside. Officers responded to the scene and found that the female had barricaded herself inside of her home. A perimeter was created and surrounding neighbors were offered the ability to leave their homes for safety or choose to stay in their homes and remain far from windows and doors. Police have made contact with the adult female and are attempting to find a peaceful resolution to this situation.
Residents of the Shady Valley Drive area are asked to stay inside of their homes until Riley County police can resolve a situation with a woman who is reportedly barricaded and armed, inside of her home.
RCPD Public Information Officer Mat Droge indicates that not much can be said at this time, although police are in touch with the woman.
Reports began to come in a little before 10:30 a.m., with Droge on the scene shortly thereafter.
KMAN will continue to keep you updated as the situation unfolds.
