According to a release from K-State Athletics, K-State senior left-handed pitcher Jordan Floyd was selected on day two of the Major League Baseball Draft as he was taken by the Kansas City Royals in the 10th round (300th overall) Tuesday.
Floyd, a native of Topeka, Kansas, finished his K-State career as the program’s all-time leader with 91 relief appearances and his 12 career saves tie him for fourth on K-State’s career list.
In his senior season, Floyd totaled 30 1/3 innings pitched and matched his career high with 30 strikeouts. Appearing in 21 games, the 6-2 southpaw was 10-for-10 in save opportunities in 2017 with a 5.04 ERA (17 earned runs).
Floyd’s 10th-round selection marks the fifth straight season a Wildcat has been picked in the first 10 rounds of the MLB First-Year Player Draft. It is also the third straight season a K-State pitcher has been taken off the board in the draft’s first 10 rounds.
A graduate of Shawnee Heights High School, Floyd was selected in the 25th round by the New York Yankees in the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft but elected not to sign and attend K-State.
Overall, Floyd becomes the 54th pitcher in program history to be selected and 13th player to be selected by Kansas City, most of any professional organization.
K-State finished the 2017 season with a 29-26 record, its first winning season since 2013.
