According to K-State Athletics, women’s basketball head coach Jeff Mittie announced on Wednesday the signing of guard Alisa Wiggins to a National Letter of Intent (NLI) during the spring signing period. Wiggins will join the Wildcats for the upcoming 2017-18 season and have four seasons to contribute to the lineup.

Wiggins joins fellow freshmen for the 2017-18 season including: guards Cymone Goodrich (Chicago, Illinois) and Rachel Ranke (Burnsville, Minnesota) and posts Mary Lakes (Peoria, Illinois) and Ashley Ray (Girard, Kansas). The Wildcats also added junior forward Kali Jones (Murrieta, California).

Prior to the addition of Wiggins, Mittie’s incoming class for the 2017-18 season earned a ranking of number 26 in the nation by Blue Star Basketball Report and number 32 in the nation by Prospects Nation.

Wiggins, a 5’8” guard from Montclair, New Jersey, joins K-State following a four-year career at Montclair High School. Wiggins is the second player in the program’s history from the state of New Jersey and the first since Eileen Feeney (1976-80).

“We were looking for more depth at the guard spot and Alisa became available,” said Mittie. “She possesses good skill to run an offense and a solid 3-point shot.”

Wiggins registered over 1,000 career points and 200 career rebounds and assists during her time with the Mounties. At the conclusion of her career, Wiggins was selected to play in the 2017 New Jersey North-South All-Star Game.

In her senior season with the Mounties, Wiggins averaged 18.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 2.0 assists while helping the program to both an Essex County and North 1 Group 4 State runner-up finishes with a 22-6 overall record. She was named an All-Essex County First Team selection and a “Player to Watch” by NJ.com.

In her junior season, Wiggins helped the program to a 20-7 overall record and an Essex County runner-up finish by averaging 13.4 points, 3.4 assists and 2.7 rebounds. She garnered her first career All-Essex County First Team honor following the 2015-16 season.

Wiggins was also a decorated soccer player for Montclair, as she played on the varsity for three seasons and registered 15 career goals and three assists. She helped the Mounties win the school’s first Group 4 state title in 2015.
