Following a split of its final two home games of the 2017-18 regular season, Kansas State freshman guard Rachel Ranke was named the Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Week. This marks the second time this season Ranke has earned the honor, as she picked up her first recognition on Nov. 20. This is according to a release from K-State Athletics.
Ranke reached double figures for the 17th and 18th times this season, as she helped the Wildcats to its ninth straight win over Kansas.
Ranke started the week with 11 points and two rebounds against West Virginia. She knocked down a pair of 3-pointers which was her 21st game with two or more connections.
Against Kansas, the guard from Burnsville, Minnesota, registered 19 points, four rebounds, two blocks and two steals in K-State’s win. Ranke was 6-of-10 from the field, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc. This was her eighth game this season with four or more connections from the 3-point line. Her two blocks tied her career-high.
Ranke leads all Big 12 freshmen in 3-point field goals made per game (2.8; 77 3-pt FGs made). Her 77 made 3-point field goals is second in program history among freshmen, behind Laurie Koehn’s school record 122 three-point field goals made.
She is fourth among the league’s freshmen in scoring (11.6 ppg). Ranke is the first K-State freshman to surpass 300 or more points in her rookie season since the 2013-14 season.
