Junior forward Pierson McAtee will get some international experience in the coming weeks, as he will take an eight-day, six-game tour of Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands with the Global Sports Academy, August 10-17.
Global Sports Academy (GSA) is a non-profit organization that has been arranging both domestic and international athletic competitions between equally matched teams at all levels since 1991 to promote international goodwill and a better understanding between nations through sports.
McAtee will depart the U.S., on Friday, August 10 and arrive in Brussels, Belgium on Saturday, August 11. The nine-member squad will begin their six-game game schedule on Sunday, August 12 with a doubleheader against clubs Vabco Mol and Solingen. They will then travel overnight to Dusseldorf, Germany and tour the city of Cologne on Monday, August 13 before playing a third game against Belleflamme.
The team will return to Belgium on Tuesday, August 14 and tour of the city of Bruges, considered to be the “Venice of the North” before playing their fourth game against local club team Westhoek Zweveezele. A fifth game against STBB will follow on Wednesday, August 15 before a tour of Brussels and an overnight trip to Amsterdam in The Netherlands and the final game against Dordrecht on Thursday, August 16.
The Global Sports Academy team will return home on Friday, August 17.
McAtee will be joined on the Global Sports Academy trip by Donoven Carlisle (Denver), Jaizec Lottie (Little Rock), Dante Lombardi (Indiana University Pennsylvania), Austin Mueller (Wyoming), Ade Murkey (Denver), Hunter Maldonado (Wyoming), Matthew Penecale (West Chester) and Jackson Hyland (West Chester).
A 2018 Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection, McAtee has seen action in 25 games in his two-year career. He saw action in 10 games as a sophomore in 2017-18, averaging 0.8 points on 50 percent shooting to go with 0.2 rebounds in 2.0 minutes per game off the bench.
