Manhattan pet licenses now available at vet clinics

0
By KMAN Staff on October 5, 2018 Local News, Manhattan
Fourth-year veterinary student Valerie Head sits with Ace in the intensive care unit at Kansas State University's Veterinary Health Center. Ace required multiple surgeries to repair a severe tear in his trachea.

Manhattan residents won’t have to make a trip to City Hall to license their pets anymore.

Multiple veterinary offices are partnering with the City of Manhattan to sell licenses at their clinics. The city commission adopted an ordinance allowing the practice in July.

Now rabies tags will serve as the proof of license for a pet rather than a separate tag or document. Assistant City Manager Kiel Mangus said they are hoping that streamlining the process will “get more people to comply with law and maintain public safety” by keeping their pets up-to-date on vaccinations.

The veterinary offices that will have licenses available for purchase are Animal Doctor Westside, Blue Hills Animal Hospital, Candlewood Veterinary Clinic, Fur Family Animal Hospital, Little Apple Veterinary Hospital and Vet Health Center at KSU. Pet licenses will also still be available for purchase at City Hall.

Pet license fees were also updated as part of the ordinance the city adopted earlier this year. One-year licenses for spayed/neutered pets will cost $6 and $24 for non-spayed/neutered pets. Two-year licenses for spayed/neutered pets will cost $12 and $48 for non-spayed/neutered pets. Three-year licenses for spayed/neutered pets will cost $16 and $64 for non-spayed/neutered pets.
