Kansas State head women’s basketball coach Jeff Mittie announced the signing of two players to National Letters of Intent (NLI) during the Fall National Signing period on Wednesday. The new additions to the K-State roster for the 2019-20 season are: forward Emma Chapman and guard Jada Thorpe.

Emma Chapman is a 6’2” forward from Columbia, Missouri, as she is entering her fourth season on the Hickman High School varsity. Entering the 2018-19 season, Chapman was selected as a Missouri Roundball Magazine Elite 30 player. Chapman is a two-time Class 5 All-District 9 selection in the state of Missouri and was named to the Columbia Tribune All-Area First Team in 2017-18.

During her junior season in 2017-18, Chapman averaged 17 points, eight rebounds, 2.5 blocks, two assists and 1.5 steals per game.

In the 2016-17 season, Chapman helped Hickman High to the District 9 semifinals with a record of 19-7. Chapman averaged nine points, six rebounds, 2.2 steals and just over a block a game.

Chapman is a two-sport letterwinner at Hickman, as she is also a decorated volleyball player as a middle blocker. She is a two-time Class 4 District 9 First Team selection and in 2018 earned All-Class 4 District 12 First Team honors. In 2018, she helped the Kewpies to a 21-10-4 overall record and a District 12 runner-up finish.

Jada Thorpe is a 5’7” guard from Chicago, Illinois, entering her senior season and her first with Simeon Career Academy. She is on the Prospects Nation Watch list for the Class of 2019. Thorpe will be the third player in program history to join K-State from Chicago, joining current Wildcat Cymone Goodrich and former Wildcat Sharon Carr (1982-83).

Last season, Thorpe played for Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida, where she helped the program to a 18-3 record and a state tournament title. Thorpe averaged 16.6 points, five assists and two rebounds for the Eagles.

Thorpe played her first two high school seasons with North Lawndale High School in Chicago. She helped the program to a 43-11 overall record and a state runner-up finish in 2015-16. In her freshman year, Thorpe averaged 14.6 points, five assists and three rebounds per game and was named to the 2015-16 Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) Class 3A/4A Special Mention All-State Team.

In her sophomore year, Thorpe helped the program to a city runner-up finish, she averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 assists and 3.4 rebounds.
