For the first time in her career, Kansas State senior guard Kayla Goth has been named Big 12 Player of the Week in an announcement from the league office. Goth is K-State’s first Big 12 Player of the Week recipient since Brittany Chambers on March 4, 2013.
This was the 27th time that a Wildcat has earned the weekly Big 12 honor and the first time in the Jeff Mittie era.
Goth led the Wildcats to a pair of wins last week and extended K-State’s win streak to four games. The product of DeForest, Wisconsin, averaged 17.5 points on a 57.9 percent field goal percentage, 6.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals.
Against an upset-minded Lamar, who downed a top-20 Texas A&M squad in College Station the previous week, Goth registered her first double-double of the season and the fifth of her career with 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field and handed out a season-high 10 assists in K-State’s 73-55 win. She also pulled in three rebounds and pocketed two steals. This was her seventh career game with 10 or more assists.
During the win against Lamar, the 2019 Nancy Lieberman Award candidate became the 10th player in program history with 350 or more assists and 300 or more career rebounds.
In K-State’s first true road game of the season, Goth led the Wildcats with 15 points, six rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal in the 53-47 win at Little Rock. Adding to Goth’s point total was her free throw shooting, as she was 6-of-6 from the charity stripe with all six conversions in the final 1:30 of the six-point win.
This season, Goth leads the Big 12 in total assists with 57 and is second in assists per game at 6.3. She is second on the team in scoring with 11.3 per game and leads the team in steals (16) and free throw shooting (25-30; .833). She needs 55 points to become the 41st player in program history to score 1,000 or more career points.
