Maary Lakes Dismissed from Women’s Basketball Program

    From K-State Athletics

Kansas State head women’s basketball coach Jeff Mittie announced today that sophomore center Maary Lakes has been dismissed from the program for a violation of team rules and conduct detrimental to the program.

“This is a very disappointing outcome as Maary was a student-athlete with so much potential,” Mittie said. “But, we have certain standards and expectations that all of our student-athletes must meet and when those standards are not met, there are consequences. Maary was someone we thought deserved a second chance, but unfortunately, it is time for us to both move on, and we wish her nothing but the best.”

Lakes was arrested early Monday morning for domestic battery and criminal damage to property of less than $1,000. She was released on a $750 bond. This is the 2nd time that Lakes has been arrested since arriving in Manhattan. Lakes also was arrested July 16 on suspicion of domestic battery, according to the Riley County Police Department. The charges were later dropped.

    Update***

According to the latest RCPD arrest report, former K-State WBB player Mary Lakes was arrested again last night for violation of a protection order. The arrest took place at 7:55 pm and she was release on a $1,000 bond. It was the 2nd time in 20 hours that Lakes was arrested.

Lakes has played in 13 games this season and averaged 1.6 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.
