MANHATTAN — The Native Stone Chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse is opening a firework stand Monday that will help raise money for their organization.
Spokesperson Lisa McCurdy says this is the most important fundraiser of the year for the organization.
“It generates the funds we need for the year to provide things to the kids, such as therapy, items for the kids like blankets, vests and B.A.C.A. bears,” McCurdy said Wednesday in an appearance on the KMAN Morning Show.
Organizers had to move their booth this year to a new location at 900 North 3rd Street, across from Dairy Queen in east Manhattan. McCurdy says they’ll be open in the new tent beginning on Monday at noon and will be open through midnight on the July 4.
“We’ve got some good stuff. We’re selling Garrett’s brand fireworks. They have a better VIP package this year and stuff for kids and adults alike,” McCurdy said.
According to the national B.A.C.A. website, the organization exists with the intent to create a safer environment for abused children. Native Stone Chapter member Ray Finley.
“We’re trying to help them not be afraid of the world they live in. We try to work with local agencies including CASA, law enforcement, DCF and St. Francis. We provide funds for therapy and provide parties for the children,” Finley said.
100 percent of the funds raised at this fireworks tent go directly to the children. Bikers Against Child Abuse does not pocket any of the money raised. For more information visit bacaworld.org.
