MANHATTAN — Fire investigators have ruled the cause of Wednesday morning’s fire at Colonial Gardens mobile home park to be undetermined, with a loss of about $400,000 in damages.
The Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office was requested to assist by responding an accelerant detection canine. The dog is used to sniff out traces of potential ignitable materials that could’ve been used to start a fire. At this point the fire cause is believed to be accidental and arson is not suspected. Loss is estimated at $300,000 to the structure and $100,000 to the contents.
The previous clubhouse building in the mobile home park was also destroyed by fire in May of 2000.
No injuries were reported from Wednesday’s fire. Firefighters from Manhattan and Riley County Fire Departments contained the fire within a half hour.

MANHATTAN — An early Wednesday morning fire caused significant damage in the Colonial Gardens mobile home park, at 3050 Tuttle Creek Blvd.
The Manhattan and Riley County Fire Departments were dispatched shortly before 4:30 a.m. for a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found the single story clubhouse building with heavy smoke and visible fire. It reached a second alarm before being contained within about a half an hour. No injuries were reported. Limited access to fire hydrants made fighting the fire difficult. Fire crews had to use a water shuttle operation to supply water to the scene.
A total of 12 apparatuses responded from both departments. Loss is currently undetermined. The fire cause also remains under investigation. The owner is listed as Colonial Gardens LLC of Farmington Hills, Michigan.
