A California man arrested for smuggling drugs into Kansas has been sentenced to more than 13 years in prison.
U.S. District Attorney Stephen McAllister said Thursday that 45-year-old Eduardo Garcia-Patino was sentenced to 164 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy and one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Garcia-Patino was stopped for a traffic violation in the eastbound lanes of I-70 in Geary County in 2017.
Investigators found a red duffel bag in his truck containing 23 pounds of methamphetamine.
McAllister commended the Geary County Sheriff’s Office, the Drug Enforcement Administration, Jackson County Drug Task Force, as well as Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle McFarlane and Assistant U.S. Attorney Tris Hunt for their work on the case.
