    Update – 7 a.m. Friday

The Kansas Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate after a pedestrian was found dead on eastbound I-70 near Fort Riley Thursday morning.

Investigators believe he was walking eastbound and was struck by one or possibly more than one vehicle, near the fogline slightly east of mile marker 302. The man’s body was discovered around 5:15 a.m. Thursday.

The agency says several attempts have been made to identify the unknown vehicle or vehicles and are seeking assistance from the public to help locate any vehicle that may have left the scene of the crash early Thursday morning.

Information can be submitted to Kansas Highway Patrol Dispatch at 785-827-4437.

    Original story – 10:30 a.m. Thursday

Authorities have confirmed a dead body was discovered early Thursday morning along Interstate 70, near Fort Riley.

According to Trooper Ben Gardner with the Kansas Highway Patrol, officers with the Geary County Sheriff’s Office were notified around 5:15 a.m. Thursday by a motorist about a deceased male found on the eastbound shoulder of I-70 near mile marker 302.

Details regarding the incident remain unclear. Gardner says investigators believe the man, who has not been identified, was struck by one or more vehicles, which left the scene.

As of 10:30 a.m. one eastbound lane remained closed as KHP officials continue to investigate.
