There will be no school Friday for students at USD 383 Manhattan-Ogden Schools.
Superintendent Dr. Marvin Wade says the district will use the day as one of the weather days already built into the calendar. It is not a remote learning day. Scheduled activities and athletics can continue as planned. With no school Monday, due to the Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday, the district is calling the move a “short-term sacrifice” as they provide a four-day weekend for everyone to hopefully get healthy.
COVID numbers district wide are continuing to put added stress on maintaining an adequate number of staff in the building. Wade says on a typical 5-day school week, the district averages about 50 licensed staff absences per day, and out of those absences they average roughly five of those positions needing substitutes not being able to secure one.
During the week of January 10, the district has averaged 85 licensed staff absences a day and short an average of 15 substitutes per day. The classified departments are also facing short staffing due to staff illness.
USD 323 Rock Creek Schools also announced that classes were being canceled Thursday and Friday at both Rock Creek Middle School and St. George Elementary, due to staffing shortages.
