Manhattan City Commissioners Tuesday will begin a review of the city’s corpus of advisory boards and committees.

Manhattan has 21 city-sponsored boards and committees, as well as 2 temporary committees and 6 associated outside agency boards.

City commissioners beginning in 2021 and into 2022 identified this review as a priority, with administrative staff noting many boards have not been reviewed in years and numerous have not made formal recommendations to the commission in years either.

A memo circulated with city commissioners highlights multiple changes recommended by city staff, including the merger of the Social Services Advisory Board and Special Alcohol Funds Committee and the dissolution of the Partner City and Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committees.

Staff further recommends pulling back staff liaisons from the Food and Farm Council and – among other possibilities – potentially dissolving the Arts and Humanities Advisory Board in lieu of dedicated staff to implement public art projects.

The meeting is in Manhattan City Hall at 6 p.m. It’s televised on Cox Cable Channel 3 and Livestreamed at www.cityofmhk.com/tv.
