Manhattan Visits Derby to Kick Off New HS Football Season

Week one of the high school football season includes a showdown between teams from the 6A playoff field of a season ago as Manhattan High visits Derby. The Indians finished last season with a loss in the state quarterfinals to Lawrence, while the Panthers nearly ran the table, but lost in the championship to finish 11-1. Wamego faces NCKL foe Clay Center in the season opener at home, but will be playing without Army signee Hayden Oviatt. The senior suffered a foot injury that prompted surgery last month and will miss the first five weeks of the season. Rock Creek travels to Southeast of Saline, Riley County hosts Silver Lake and Blue Valley-Randolph opens at St. Paul in an early start, kicking off at six.
