The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Topeka man who led authorities from numerous agencies on a manhunt Tuesday morning that crossed into Pottawatomie County.

Sheriff Brian Hill says 27-year-old James Brooks was arrested for burglary and four different types of theft, including theft of a firearm. Brooks is accused of stealing a pickup and attached livestock trailer from a residence north of Rossville around 5 a.m. Tuesday and later crashing it near a rural intersection northeast of St. Marys.

After locating the abandoned truck, authorities established a perimeter and located Brooks nearby. He’s currently being held in lieu of bond.

Multiple agencies assisted, including the Jackson, Pottawatomie and Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Offices, St. Marys Police and the Kansas Highway Patrol.
