Northview Elementary will host its second annual Color Trot April 27 and students will have a refurbished trail to utilize for the event.
Just last week, concrete was poured on the trail, which curves around the greenspace east of the school. Principal Nick Goos says the idea came together at the right time, when money became available from the Manhattan-Ogden Public Schools Foundation for outdoor enhancements, coupled with the PTA starting the Color Trot fundraiser last year.
Foundation President Heather Landsdowne tells KMAN that funding sources include funds raised by Northview students and families several years ago earmarked for improvements. Some of the funds were specifically from a memorial fund intended to make the spaces more accessible for students with special needs.
Goos says he’s excited for the opportunity the new trail provides to the community, in addition to Northview Elementary.
As concrete was poured last week, Goos says Midwest Concrete Materials, which partners with the school as a Careers to Classrooms partnering business, gave fourth grade students a firsthand look into their industry.
Contractors have worked tirelessly to get the concrete poured ahead of the next Color Trot, slated for April 27.
Goos says future enhancements are being proposed, including the potential for benches, trash cans, exercise equipment or possibly disc golf infrastructure, though nothing has been finalized.
