Kathryn Focke will seek another term on the Riley County Commission.

The incumbent 3rd district commissioner was elected in 2020, replacing Ron Wells on the board. She’s the second so far to file for a seat on the commission, joining fellow commissioner Greg McKinley, who also was elected four years ago.

In a statement, Focke says some of her major goals are to solve critical space issues in the courts, a plan for the deferred maintenance needs of county buildings and conducting a space analysis and updates for employees to work more efficiently.

During her first term, Focke has supported a critical new wastewater system for the town of Keats, participated in multiple committees and boards that serve RCPD, ATA Bus, the Westloop Business Association, Fort Riley, the Food and Farm Council and the Heartland Works Board.

Focke came to the commission with 34 years of design/construction experience, as a business owner and a consultant. Some of her community service has included serving as a Common Table weekly meal team leader, helping establish the FIT Closet and working with the KSU Food Recovery Team.

Candidates have until June 3 to file for the election.
