RCPD proposing $2 million increase in 2025 budget

Members of the Riley County Law Board will get their first look at the police budget proposal for 2025 at Monday’s monthly meeting.

RCPD is proposing a $28.9 million budget that includes a little over $2 million in added funds, totaling about a 7.6% increase. It includes over $815,000 to meet the department’s cost of living adjustment of 3.8%.

The department intends to apply unused personnel carry over funds totaling over $259,000 to bring the proposed realized budget to $28.7 million, a roughly 6.6% increase. Last year, the Law Board approved a 6.5 percent increase that also included a 6.5% COLA, as part of a two year salary survey implementation.

Other items in front of the board include consideration of two grant applications — one aimed at creating positions to respond to inmate mental health needs for two years and another aimed at violent crime reduction through license plate reader technology.

The board meets at noon Monday in City Hall.

The full meeting agenda materials are available below.
