Hundreds of people gathered outside the Flint Hills Discovery Center to view the solar eclipse Monday afternoon.

Peak viewing occurred at 1:51 p.m. where 85% obscurity was observed.

Amateur astronomer Steve Johannes partnered with the Discovery Center to help citizens view the historic event.

Curator of Education Sally Dreher says a grant from NASA helped the Discovery Center prepare.

The Discovery Center hosted an event beforehand, and glasses were donated by the Manhattan Public Library and other local organizations.

Elsewhere across the country some witnessed totality, including KMAN’s Kolby Van Camp, who traveled to Farmington, Missouri. Tune in to KMAN at 7:35 a.m. Tuesday to hear his recap of the rare event. Video shot by Van Camp is shared below. Photos are shared in the above gallery.
