The Manhattan High wrestling staff has earned national recognition for their success in the 2023-2024 season.

The National Wrestling Coaches Association has named Manhattan High’s Shawn Bammes the Kansas High School coach of the year. Plus, Bammes’ assistant coaches Danny Grater, Dayton Crist, Ethan Sharp and Chad Wolf were named the Kansas Assistants of the Year.

Back in February, the Indians won the 6A State title for the 5th time in program history and the 1st under third-year head coach Shawn Bammes. Manhattan was led by their two individual state champions, Zeke Witt (43-0) at 113 pounds and Caeleb Hutchinson (41-5) at 120 pounds.

The NWCA Scholastic Coach of the Year Awards Program commences with the selection of winners from each state. Each section then selects its winners, who will be finalists for the National Coach of the Year award.
