    Bernat Earns Another All-America Designation

MANHATTAN, Kan. (K-State Athletics) – The first All-American in Kansas State women’s golf history picked up another honor as Carla Bernat has been named a Third Team All-American by Golfweek.

Bernat, who was named a Second Team All-American by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association of America two weeks ago, earned the exclusive honor from Golfweek as the publication only named 10 players to each of its first, second and third teams. She was one of four Big 12 golfers named a Golfweek All-American and one of only two named to the first, second or third team along with second-team honoree Farah O’Keefe of Texas.

A native of Castellon, Spain, Bernat was also named a unanimous selection to the Coaches’ All-Big 12 team last week, just the third women’s golfer in school history to earn the distinction.

In her first campaign with the Wildcats, the junior set the single-season school record with a 70.90 scoring average in addition to putting together five of the program’s top 11 54-hole scores and three of the school’s top 25 18-hole scores. She earned two victories on the season, winning the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational at Colbert Hills in early October and the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at Athens, Georgia, in late March. Her win at the Liz Murphey, combined with a third-place finish at the MountainView Collegiate, led to Bernat being named the Big 12 Women’s Golfer of the Month in March.

She was a key cog in helping the Wildcats set a new school record for team scoring average at 290.25, while K-State also put together four top-five finishes in the first year under head coach Stew Burke.

Bernat is currently ranked 27th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR). She spent a majority of the 2023-24 season ranked in the top 50 of the NCAA rankings, finishing the year ranked No. 24 in the country.
