A K-State football player was injured in an accident earlier Wednesday morning in Manhattan.

21-year-old Alec Marenco, who is a linebacker on the team, was taken to Via Christi by EMS for his injuries.

The accident occurred at the corner of Marlatt Avenue and Matter Drive just after 6:15 a.m. when a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Akeena Jones-Greene crossed the center lane into oncoming traffic collided head on with Marenco who was driving in his 2019 GMC Sierra after he tried to swerve out of the way.

By the time he had gotten out of the way, Jones-Greene had corrected back into her lane causing the accident. Marenco had transferred to K-State this past season after three seasons at New Mexico. His injuries are expected to be non-life threatening.
