    By Emma Loura

Riley County commissioners on Monday agreed to pay an engineering firm for work on the new emergency medical services headquarters after previously rejecting a revised contract that more than doubled the estimated cost without prior notice.

The county hired Kaw Valley Engineering to perform material testing and inspection for the construction of the building with an original estimated cost of $12,729. However, installation of masonry was time-consuming, resulting in extra on-site inspections and tests that drove up the bill to $28,394.
