Garden City, KS – Manhattan High did something that last year’s state championship team didn’t do. Win a regional championship. Coming down to the wire of the two day tournament in Western Kansas, the Indians won the 6A West Regional title over host Garden City one team point. Plus, qualifying 12 wrestlers for State and four winning individual regional titles.
Manhattan won as a team with 254 team points. 2nd place Garden City had 253 points. Rounding out the top five was Washburn Rural, Maize and Lawrence-Free State.
The first individual regional title went to junior Cameron Coonrod at 126 pounds. The 2nd of his career. He’s not 39-7 this season. Two-time state champion Caeleb Hutchinson won his 132 pound bracket for his 2nd career regional championship. Improving his record this season to 42-1. At 150 pounds, senior Logan Lagerman won his first career regional. He’s now 32-7 on the year. Finally, sophomore Max Evans-Pryor won his first regional at 175 pounds and moves his record to 40-6.
The 6A State tournament is February 28 – March 1 at The AdventHealth Sports Park in Overland Park.
