Officers listed a 22-year-old  female as the victim when she reported an unknown suspect took her X-Box and computer. A public servant retires after a 20 plus year career. Assistant Chief of Risk Reduction and Code Service Brad Claussen officially retired from the Manhattan fire department Monday September 23rd. A retirement party was held for Claussen the same day and had over 50 people in attendance. Claussen was understandably emotional. Claussen achieved the Master Code Professional designation making him 1 of only 800 to do so. Claussen was presented with a Plaque and other gifts from his former colleagues. Manhattan High School students stood outside the school on Sunday to get the attention of community members to buy one thing; mattresses. The MHS Big Blue Band and journalism department sold mattresses to raise money for trips for each department.  The fundraiser was put on by Custom Fundraising Solutions, located out of Wichita, for the school.  Students were even dressed in mattress costumes to get people in the door. SEDGWICK, Kan. — The small Kansas city of Sedgwick has fired its police chief. City Administrator Joe Turner says he fired Chief Larry Alexander last week after the city council reviewed a 64-page report about him during a closed meeting. Turner declined to say why Alexander was fired because it is a personnel matter. Alexander could not be immediately reached Sunday. His home number is unlisted, and he didn’t immediately respond to a message left at his city office. Sedgwick is a town of about 1,600 people about 20 miles (32.19 kilometers) north of Wichita.

WICHITA, Kan. — Authorities are investigating the burning of a gay pride rainbow flag that had been hanging on the front porch of a Wichita home. Wichita police say the flag was burned between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. Saturday. At the time, a man, woman and 11-year-old girl were inside the home. It is in the city’s Riverside neighborhood, which is located near the Wichita Art Museum and a botanical garden. Police are investigating the incident as an aggravated and a hate crime. Anyone with information is urged to call police.

WICHITA, Kan. — Authorities say a 4-year-old girl and two men have been wounded in a shooting at a Wichita home. KAKE-TV reports that shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. Sunday in the northeast part of the city. Police say an officer rushed the child to the hospital in a patrol vehicle before emergency crews arrived. She was initially in critical condition but now is listed as stable. A towering figure in Manhattan has returned to prominence. On Friday, September 20 in Manhattan City Park, a reopening of the famous Johnny Kaw Statue was held. A speaker at the event was Manhattan Mayor Mike Dodson who said no tax dollars were used on the project. The project cost nearly $300,000 and was raised by the “Friends of Johnny Kaw.” The legend of Johnny Kaw was created by a K-State professor in 1955. Junction City Fire Department responded to a call for a structure early Saturday morning. At 2 a.m., JCFD responded to 1402 Rucker Rd. for a call. According to the JCFD, upon arrival, fire crews found a structure fire at the location. One of the occupants had a minor injury to his left hand from trying to put the fire out. Medics checked him out and applied dressing and he was a non transport. The fire Marshall was called to the scene and is leading the investigation. No foul play is considered at this point.
