It’s going to be a dangerously frosty weekend in the Flint Hills. The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a wind chill advisory for the KMAN-listening area in effect until noon Sunday. NWS says freezing drizzle north of I-70 will gradually diminish Friday night. An Arctic airmass will begin to surge southeast through the area tonight and will cause any wet and untreated roadways to refreeze. Manhattan unemployment numbers continue to be low but have gone up a little since this same time last year. November numbers just released by the Kansas Department of Labor indicate a 3.1 percent number for the Manhattan Metro area in Riley and Pottawatomie Counties, compared to 2.6 last year. The Manhattan-Junction City area is a bit higher at 3.5 percent. The Manhattan Riley County number is 2.9 percent. TOPEKA — Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach has met with President-elect Donald Trump. Kobach made no comment to reporters Thursday upon arriving for and leaving his meeting at Trump Tower in New York. Kobach advised Trump’s campaign on immigration issues. Kobach is a former law professor who helped draft tough state and local laws cracking down on illegal immigration, including in Arizona and Alabama. TOPEKA — Kansas has renewed its existing contracts for three companies managing the state’s Medicaid program for another year through 2018. Lt. Gov. Jeff Colyer made the announcement Thursday in a tweet. He said, “Time will bring clarity from D.C” on health care policy. Officers with the Riley County Police Department arrested Roy Cephas Jr., 18, of Manhattan, while at the Riley County Police Department early yesterday morning.  Cephas was arrested on two Riley County District Court warrants, one for battery and one for failure to appear. TOPEKA — The Kansas House will have a new budget subcommittee on funding for public schools, and a western Kansas lawmaker will lead its Appropriations Committee. House Speaker Ron Ryckman Jr. of Olathe announced Thursday that he’s splitting oversight over education spending between subcommittees on public schools and higher education. Updated Friday afternoon: The Emergency Reporting Phase in Riley County expired at one p.m. All accidents can now be reported as normal. ### Slick roads caused multiple accidents in the Riley County area and, the Riley County Police Department has activated the emergency reporting phase which means if there are no injuries in an accident, motorists are asked to exchange information and remove vehicles from the road. In a year where discussions about minimum wage have popped up across the country, a battle against wage disparity has gathered attention in the Little Apple. On a bitter-cold Thursday afternoon, nearly 30 peaceful demonstrators gathered in front of Edwards Hall on the K-State campus to show their support for wage increases for university custodial staff.
