In a deal reached with the county attorney’s office, a Manhattan teen on Tuesday entered a guilty plea to robbery in Riley County District Court. Sixteen-year-old Miles Ellner’s defense attorney, Christopher Biggs, and Riley County attorneys recommend a sentence of probation, but Ellner faces a possible sentence of nine to 18 months in a juvenile corrections facility. About the events leading to his charge, Assistant County Attorney Phon Sounakhen said Ellner and another teen devised a plan in April to rob a 16-year-old boy. Fort Riley officials announced Tuesday that, following a directive from the U.S. Army, it is concluding operations of the Commanding General’s Mounted Color Guard to align more resources with warfighting capability and readiness. Officials confirmed they will work diligently to find suitable homes for the horses and will keep the community informed throughout the transition. The change does not impact the 1st Infantry Division’s Big Red One core priorities, which include building warfighting readiness; caring for soldiers, civilians, and families; adapting formations to win and developing inspirational leaders. A Manhattan man was hospitalized Tuesday after being struck by a car. The Kansas Highway Patrol says it happened just after 10:30 p.m. at K-18/Fort Riley Blvd and South 5th Street. Officials say a Toyota Avalon driven by 61-year-old Penny Peterson, of Junction City was eastbound when her vehicle struck 30-year-old Manuel Fischer, who entered the roadway from the north. Fischer was transported to Stormont Vail in Topeka with a suspected serious injury. Peterson was not injured. Click here for more local news.

By Rose Gruenbacher A Hutchinson man pleaded guilty to attempted contribution to child misconduct Monday, after reaching a plea deal with the state. Kobi Scroggin, 24, pleaded guilty to two two counts of attempted contribution to a child’s misconduct by sheltering or concealing a runaway. He was arrested March 18, after aiding two runaway children. Scroggin reportedly knew the children, also of Hutchinson, a boy born in 2007 and girl born in 2009. Ricky Dunklin, 30, is charged with rape, aggravated criminal sodomy, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated domestic battery that he allegedly committed in April 2021.
