U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue is spending a few hot days in Kansas this week, and he has a full schedule on Wednesday. The Secretary will be participating in the Kansas Agriculture Roundup to be held Wednesday at the River Creek Farms at 7280 Zeandale Road. WICHITA — A federal appeals court has dismissed the appeal filed by Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach over the finding that he violated a court order to fully register some voters. The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Tuesday that Judge Julie Robinson’s order holding Kobach in contempt is not yet final and therefore not immediately appealable. An appeals panel agreed with the American Civil Liberties Union that the contempt appeal is premature because Robinson has not yet determined the amount of sanctions. TOPEKA — Kansas Gov. Jeff Colyer says the state will renew its partnership with a group that strengthens economic ties between the state and Japan. In 2012, then-Gov. Sam Brownback dropped the state’s membership in the Midwest U.S.-Japan Association, citing the $2,000 annual cost of membership. Colyer met with association members in April and said this week that Kansas will rejoin the regional trade organization. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports Japan has invested in 55 Kansas businesses with 10,000 employees. Officers responded to the report of an injury accident near the intersection of Pillsbury Crossing Rd. and Pleasant Valley Rd. on May 22, 2018 at approximately 3:45 PM. When officers arrived on scene, they found a silver 1993 BMW driven by Noah Hardin, 20, of Fort Riley had crashed. Hardin was transported to Via Christi for treatment of his injuries. A K-State student was critically injured Saturday in a boating accident at the Lake of the Ozarks in southwest Missouri. Twenty-one year old Ashley Lamb of Olathe was flown to a Springfield hospital after the 2a.m. crash that killed three others from suburban Kansas City. A St. George woman was injured Tuesday afternoon when the vehicle she was driving collided with a Kansas Highway Patrol cruiser. According to KHP, 30-year-old Trooper Scott Moses had been parked alongside Highway 24, near Rockenham Road in Pottawatomie County, when he pulled onto the road to attempt to stop a vehicle that had passed by. The Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors have formally established a search committee to find the Chamber’s next President and CEO.
