More than 3,000 soldiers with the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, are set to return to  Fort Riley following a nine-month deployment to Europe in support of Atlantic Resolve, according to the army post. The first was the consideration of a new Flint Hills Area Transit Agency (FHATA) inter-local agreement and cancellation of the current FHRTA inter-local agreement. The second item considered a change to the parking rules in Aggieville’s streets and public lots. The third reviewed the 2019 City/University Special Projects Funds Request and Committee Recommendations. TOPEKA — Some Kansas lawmakers have expressed discomfort with the Commerce Department’s operations and authority to reward companies without proving the value of taxpayer investments. The department crafted an economic incentives package in 2016 to keep a food products supplier’s headquarters in Wichita. Cargill is receiving funding from the package to retain and grow jobs while starting and ending with the same employee total. WICHITA — The stepmother of a 5-year-old Wichita boy who has been missing since February has been acquitted of child endangerment in an unrelated case involving her own daughter. A jury deliberated for less than an hour before returning the not guilty verdict Wednesday in the case of Emily Glass. The Wichita Eagle reports Glass has been on trial this week for reportedly smoking marijuana and then driving with her 1-year-old daughter. Democratic candidate for Kansas governor Josh Svaty announced his choice of Katrina Lewison of Manhattan as his running mate for Lt. Governor Wednesday morning. Lewison, born and raised in Hutchinson and Buhler, is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and served in the 101st Airborne Division as a Black Hawk helicopter platoon leader during Operation Iraqi Freedom, according to Svaty’s campaign. Gov. Jeff Colyer traveled to Kansas State University on Tuesday to sign House Substitute for Senate Bill 109. This is the supplemental appropriations passed by the legislature that includes $15 million restoration for higher education across the state.
