Martin Luther King III was 10 when his iconic father, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was assassinated on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee. The oldest son of Martin and Coretta Scott King, he remembers his father taking the family to the YMCA and the fun they all had swimming together. He also remembers traveling with his father and witnessing the fight for civil rights. It was a movement of non-violence. And even though his father’s life was taken by an act of violence, his father’s message of peace and resistance to bloodshed reverberated inside K-State’s Forum Hall Thursday afternoon.…

Jeff Colyer on Wednesday announced plans to stop KanCare 2.0 and address concerns raised by legislators and other stakeholders regarding increased costs and the state’s ability to absorb those costs in future budgets, according to a press release from the governor’s office. Police say the death of 22-year-old Matthew Snyder, the son of K-State associate head coach Sean Snyder and grandson of head football coach Bill Snyder, has been ruled a suicide. The Wichita Eagle reports that a Riley County Police Department report obtained through an open records request says Snyder died last week of asphyxiation at his home in Manhattan. Police documents says Riley County police responded to an emergency call made by his father, Sean. No one else was injured and no foul play is suspected. A new trial is in the works for a Manhattan man accused of first-degree murder and child abuse. Riley County Senior Deputy Attorney Barry Disney told KMAN the trial for Andrew Gibson resulted in a hung jury Tuesday morning. That means the jury was unable to reach a verdict of guilty or not guilty and thus declared a mistrial. The trial began Jan. 16 and was given four days. TOPEKA — Republican leaders in the Kansas House say they’re taking steps to make sure the public has more information about who is behind the legislation that members consider. House Speaker Ron Ryckman Jr. of Olathe told reporters Monday that he’s directed committees to ensure that the written records of their meetings list which lawmakers request bills and on whose behalf they’re asking for them. Terrence Talley, 33, of Manhattan was arrested while at the Riley County Police Department on January 22, 2018 at approximately 5:05 PM. Talley was arrested on a Riley County District Court warrant for failure to appear and a separate Riley County District Court warrant for aggravated escape from custody.
