The 2016 State of the University address by Interim President Gen. Richard Myers is set for 3:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, in the K-State Alumni Center in Manhattan, and at the Kansas State Polytechnic Campus at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, in the College Center conference room. The university address will be followed by an open forum serving as an opportunity for discussion with Myers. The events will be video streamed online for those who are not able to attend in person.

Two injury accidents from Sunday are listed in a separate report! ### Officers with the Riley County Police Department responded to Via Christi Hospital Saturday night for a report of a past vehicle versus bicycle collision. The accident had occurred approximately one hour earlier at 9:15 PM near the intersection of Bertrand Street and 10th Street in Manhattan, but was not reported immediately. Austin Telck, 18, of Manhattan reported he had been riding a bicycle eastbound on Bertrand and had entered 10th Street when he was struck by an unknown vehicle that had been traveling northbound in the intersection. Riley County Police and emergency crews responded to two injury accidents Sunday, with one near the intersection of Tuttle Creek Boulevard and K13 Highway   at about 2:30 PM. Police say a 2000 GMC pickup driven by Joshua Williams, 38, of Olsburg collided with a 2012 Chevy Impala driven by Steven Sutej, 58,  from Papillion, Nebraska. There was also a passenger, Valerie Sutej, 56, in the Impala. This collision occurred after Williams was attempting to turn left off of Tuttle Creek Boulevard onto K13 Highway. In a largely unsurprising announcement Monday morning, Kansas State football coach Bill Snyder said Jesse Ertz will be the Wildcats’ starting quarterback when K-State opens its season Friday at No. 8 Stanford. Ertz was the favorite to win the job, having done so last year before suffering a season-ending injury on the first play of the 2015 season. The mystery illness that sent several Manhattan High School students home last week with vomiting and nausea symptoms has grown. Riley County Health Department Director Jennifer Green told KMAN after Monday morning’s Riley County commission meeting there are now 54 reported cases of students sick with vomiting and nausea symptoms. The cases were first known last Monday with six students reporting such symptoms and the number grew to 16 by Thursday. These students are from Manhattan High’s West Campus. “At this time, we’re not speculating what this might be or what the cause of the nausea and vomiting might be,” Green told…

Junction City Police are investigating a stabbing reported late Sunday night. At approximately 11:43 p.m., members of the Junction City Police Department and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the Budget Host Motel at 820 South Washington Street in reference to a disturbance where a subject had been stabbed. Upon arrival contact was made with the victim, identified as Karlie Jones, 19, of Wichita, who reportedly received a single stab wound to the chest. Former Kansas State quarterback Daniel Sams was arrested over the weekend in connection to a Louisiana homicide and home invasion that occurred earlier this month. Sams was taken into custody by the Lake Charles (LA) Police Department on four charges, including Accessory After the Fact to Second Degree Murder. The killing occurred on August 12 in Lake Charles. His bond was set at $200,000 and the investigation is ongoing. Sams spent the 2012 and 2013 seasons at K-State before transferring to McNeese State. He played in 21 games as a Wildcat and ran for 14 touchdowns while passing for four more.

Manhattan’s sales tax revenue for the month of August was released on Friday. According to Bernie Hayen, direct of finance, the numbers are down just a bit from budgeted revenue but up from August 2015. Total revenue for August was $928,930, compared to last year’s $904,472.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Heavy rain has swamped several areas of Kansas City, prompting high-water rescues and a temporary stoppage of the city’s downtown streetcar service. KMBC-TV reported that Friday night’s storms caused Brush Creek, which runs through the south side of the city, to rise 10 feet in an hour. The Kansas City Star reports that the Johnson County Emergency Management office said there were more than 10 water rescues before 11 p.m. due to the flash flooding. WICHITA — An audit has found some Kansas law enforcement agencies are taking advantage of vague state forfeiture laws to use those proceeds to pay for salaries and other apparent operating expenses. The practice creates an incentive for increased seizures, especially in times when agency budgets are tight. Kansas is among a few states that do not require a person be convicted of a crime before their property can be forfeited. The American Civil Liberties Union called the findings of the audit, which was released last month, “deeply, deeply troubling.” Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police lobbyist Ed Klumpp countered the audit…
