Manhattan Regional Airport (MHK) set a passenger traffic record in 2017 with a total of 66,206 enplanements – that’s the number of people boarding scheduled commercial airline aircraft. “This is a milestone accomplishment for not only Manhattan but the entire north-central Kansas region,” Airport Director Jesse Romo said in a media release from the airport. Enplanements in 2016 had fallen from previous years by about 3,000 but 2017 was more than a rebound year. Riley County EMS presented four scenarios to county commissioners Monday to cut down ambulance response time in the northern parts of the county. EMS Director David Adams talked about one scenario that would move one ambulance from Station 1 in Manhattan to the City of Riley. “The response time to Riley will be 1-2 minutes and for Randolph it will be 15 minutes,” Adams said, “Leonardville, the time will be 8. LAWRENCE — Some mental health professionals say they are being pressured by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas to release notes from therapy sessions with their patients. The therapists say Blue Cross Blue Shield Kansas and its subcontractor, New Directional Behavioral Health, are demanding the notes to limit expenses for patients who need long-term intensive counseling. The Kansas City Star reports the insurance company says its auditing only a few high-cost providers to determine if the services given to patients match what was billed. The company says it shields all therapy notes and other documents to follow medical privacy laws.…

TOPEKA — Kansas Gov. Jeff Colyer is likely to keep some of former Gov. Sam Brownback’s most prominent policies in spite of promising a “new day” when taking office. Colyer was sworn in Wednesday after Brownback resigned to take an ambassador’s post. He was Brownback’s loyal lieutenant governor for seven years. Like Brownback, Colyer is a conservative Republican and a strong abortion opponent. The new administration is likely to continue supporting abortion restrictions. Chapman High School was briefly under lockdown Friday morning after a video was posted on social media, according to an email sent to KMAN from Chapman Chief of Police Kevin Diercks. In the video, two CHS students and another adult were seen handling a pistol. In the brief video there were no threats made towards anyone. Robert Gallucci was in Manhattan Thursday and spoke at K-State’s PDM lecture series that night at the Manhattan Country Club. The PDM lecture series stands for political, diplomatic and military. The Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a domestic incident on Thursday at approximately 11:50 p.m. Upon arriving at 117 W. 11th St. in Alma, the responding sheriff’s deputy discovered a male individual who appeared to be suffering from gunshot wounds.
