Amanda Massoli, 27, of Manhattan was arrested in the 100 block of S 4th St. in Manhattan on December 8, 2017 at approximately 11:10 PM. Massoli was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, use or possess with the intent to use drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. Massoli’s total bond was set at $10,000. WICHITA — Three men accused of plotting to bomb an apartment complex housing Somali refugees have asked a federal judge to pull prospective jurors from rural Kansas because they are twice as likely to have voted for President Donald Trump. Investigators said the plotters were part of a group called “the Crusaders” that had militia and so-called sovereign citizen ties. Riley County commissioners gave approval Thursday to proceed with leasing options for the base infrastructure of a new emergency radio system. The other option for the board was to make its financing a bond question for voters, either through a special election or by waiting for the November 2018 election. The Kansas Court of Appeals has affirmed a Riley County District Court judgment in a nearly six year old murder case. Former Fort Riley soldier Daniel Parker had appealed, claiming his trial attorney’s representation had been deficient because the attorney didn’t fully investigate the victim more and failed to keep Parker adequately informed before trial. Parker was convicted by a Riley County jury of felony murder in the shooting death of a Kansas National Guard member– Frederick Beverly, 21, was shot early the morning of January 1, 2012, in what was called a “drive-by” shooting at a motorcycle club’s clubhouse…

WICHITA — A county in south-central Kansas has withdrawn its bit for a Tyson Foods chicken processing plant after weeks of public opposition. The Wichita Eagle reports the Greater Wichita Partnership confirmed on Thursday that Sedgwick County has taken itself out of the running for the project. The business group echoed County Commissioner Richard Ranzau’s Wednesday statement that there isn’t enough support from the commission to offer Tyson financial incentives to build the facility. County officials and opponents of the plant say they believe Tyson wouldn’t come to the county without an offer of tax breaks or other financial subsidies.…

Updated: Thursday, 5:56 p.m. Riley County Commission Chairman Ron Wells said Thursday morning payments have been set up for city sewer service. “I went and met with the city and offered to pay back to April of last year on my use,” he said during commissioner comments at Thursday’s regularly scheduled commission meeting. During Wednesday night’s Manhattan-Ogden USD 383 Board of Education meeting, Student Body President Lily Colburn revealed the results of the student body vote for the new mascot character. The options for the vote were a coyote, wolf, bee, bison, or no character. Colburn said 63% of the vote went to the wolf.  The vote began with an online vote to see whether or not the students wanted a physical mascot or not.  Colburn said 53% of the students wanted a mascot.
