A K-State professor is preparing to live small. Professor of Kinesiology, Dr. Brandon Irwin will embark an adventure to build a “tiny house” later this month. The RV style home will be built on a 208 square foot trailer Irwin says he’s building the home using savings, a tiny house loan, and donations. He recently stopped by the KMAN studios to discuss his endeavor with Cathy Dawes.

Officers with the Riley County Police Department arrested Dylan Lambert-Perkins, 22, of Manhattan while in the 500 block of Juliette Ave. on May 3, 2016 at approximately 11:00 AM. Lambert-Perkins was arrested on the offense of probation violation which was listed on a warrant with “no bond.” At the time of this report he was confined at the Riley County Jail. RCPD filed a report for the offense of criminal use of a weapon which listed 17-year-old suspect. Manhattan City Commissioner’s approved the rezoning of a commercial planned unit development, Tuesday night. The governing body made the decision under the advisement of city administration. The move rezones a project slated for development on a vacant site east of Kimball Avenue and Grand Mere Parkway from a JenTre commercial planned unit development, to PUD, commercial planned unit development. The development will eventually house the “No Stone Unturned Foundation,” described as a split level building with modern architectural design – in addition to five other buildings. Residents of the USD 378 Riley County School District overwhelmingly rejected a $22.5 million bond issue question Tuesday night. The monies would have okay’d significant infrastructure renovations and expansions to the Riley County High School. With 100 percent of the vote tallied Tuesday night just before 8:30 p.m., 803 voted “no” — or just over 63 percent — and 468 voters were in favor of the question at almost 37 percent. The Riley County clerk’s office reported a voter turnout of 45.57 percent, or 1,276 of 2,800 registered voters. If the bond issue had passed, the USD 378 portion of…
TOPEKA — An international rating agency has revised its credit outlook for Kansas to negative from stable because of its ongoing budget problems. Tuesday’s announcement from Moody’s Investors Service came a day after lawmakers approved a plan leaving most of the work of balancing the budget through June 2017 to Gov. Sam Brownback. Even as Moody’s changed its outlook, it reaffirmed its Aa2 rating for Kansas for issuing bonds. Its report cited the state’s problems in balancing its budget since lawmakers slashed personal income taxes in 2012 and 2013 at Brownback’s urging to help stimulate the economy. A Riley man facing second-degree murder for the death of his 6-year-old daughter was in the Riley County District Court Tuesday afternoon in Manhattan for a motions hearing. Joshua Mall, 39, was allegedly driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.13 when he collided with another vehicle and then struck a tree on the evening of Oct. 5, 2015, near the 2400 block of Tuttle Creek Blvd. in Manhattan. His daughter, Madilyn, was a passenger in his vehicle and died in the wreck. The legal BAC in Kansas is no greater than .08. Mall’s trial is set for Aug. 23-26.…
