YODER — Authorities say a man accidentally was shot while trying to help kill a buffalo at a south-central Kansas meat-processing business. The Reno County Sheriff’s Department says Duane Helms of Moundridge was wounded in the leg shortly before 12:30 p.m. Friday at Yoder Meats in Yoder. Authorities say Helms was assisting a Yoder Meats employee in trying to shoot a buffalo so the animal could be butchered. The sheriff’s department says a Yoder Meats employee with a rifle was atop a ladder, trying to shoot a buffalo confined in a trailer, when the animal turned, jarring the ladder and…

TOPEKA — A few Kansas lawmakers are seeking to undo a law that will allow concealed guns in public hospitals and colleges. The proposal would permanently exempt several types of health care facilities and colleges from a law that allows guns in public buildings. That exemption will otherwise expire July 1. Supporters of allowing campuses to ban concealed guns are hopeful because the Legislature is more moderate than it was when the law passed in 2013. The National Rifle Association says it won’t support the bill. The NRA says carrying a concealed gun is a right and allows people to protect…

On the second try from the 12-yard line, Alex Smith threw an incomplete pass in the back of the end zone and the Steelers held on. The Steelers have won nine straight games. Of note, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger…
Despite recent heartbreak in Lawrence and then in Lubbock, the K-State men’s basketball team went into Saturday’s contest against Baylor with a little bit of historical swagger. Since 2010, three teams ranked No. 1 in the country had fallen in Bramlage Coliseum, but a strong and consistent second half by Baylor made sure it wouldn’t be four straight. The Bears defeated No. 25 K-State 77-68. “They are just good,” Wildcats head coach Bruce Weber said after the game. “They are smart. They executed, they made plays and we just did not have an answer for them.” The Wildcats (13-4, 2-3) trailed…
