Officers with the Riley County Police Department filed a report for theft in the 800 block of Commons Pl Friday afternoon. Gamestop was listed as a victim, when a suspect left the store with a Playstation 4, a Playstation 4 controller, an Xbox One, and two PS4 games. Officers issued a Notice to Appear for theft to Jason Wooten, 19, of Junction City. The total loss associated with this case is approximately $670.00. Manhattan has a new Community Development Director but it’s a familiar name for the city of Manhattan. Eric Cattell has been named Director of Community Development for the City of Manhattan, effective today. Cattell has been the assistant director for planning for the city for the last 18 years. As director, Cattell will be responsible for directing all long-range and current land use planning efforts for the city including the preparation of comprehensive plans, neighborhood, corridor and district plans and plan updates, and the implementation of these plans and policies through the zoning and subdivision regulations and other city ordinances.…

A Louisiana man’s Saturday morning took a turn for the worse in Wabaunsee county over the weekend. 30-year-old Brandon Perque of Marrero, Louisiana, was eastbound on Interstate 70 at mile marker 327 when he lost control of his car while passing a semi-truck. Perque’s 2015 Subaru spun out in the eastbound lane then was struck head-on by the semi. Perque was transported to Stormont Vail in Topeka. According to Kansas Highway Patrol, Perque was wearing his seat belt. The driver of the semi is listed as Clint Clark, 35, of Ferriday, Louisiana. Clark was uninjured. It’s going to be a dangerously frosty weekend in the Flint Hills. The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a wind chill advisory for the KMAN-listening area in effect until noon Sunday. NWS says freezing drizzle north of I-70 will gradually diminish Friday night. An Arctic airmass will begin to surge southeast through the area tonight and will cause any wet and untreated roadways to refreeze. Manhattan unemployment numbers continue to be low but have gone up a little since this same time last year. November numbers just released by the Kansas Department of Labor indicate a 3.1 percent number for the Manhattan Metro area in Riley and Pottawatomie Counties, compared to 2.6 last year. The Manhattan-Junction City area is a bit higher at 3.5 percent. The Manhattan Riley County number is 2.9 percent. TOPEKA — Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach has met with President-elect Donald Trump. Kobach made no comment to reporters Thursday upon arriving for and leaving his meeting at Trump Tower in New York. Kobach advised Trump’s campaign on immigration issues. Kobach is a former law professor who helped draft tough state and local laws cracking down on illegal immigration, including in Arizona and Alabama. TOPEKA — Kansas has renewed its existing contracts for three companies managing the state’s Medicaid program for another year through 2018. Lt. Gov. Jeff Colyer made the announcement Thursday in a tweet. He said, “Time will bring clarity from D.C” on health care policy.
