The Riley County Appraiser’s Office has begun the annual 2016 Final Review process for property values. County appraiser Greg McHenry told county commissioners Thursday morning he hopes to complete those values by Feburary. During the Final Review process, values are chosen for all the approximately 24,000 real estate parcels in the county. A Manhattan man has been arrested in the case of his wife’s stabbing death in Mississippi. Riley County police took 34-year-old Edward Alexander Broom, into custody Tuesday on a warrant for extradition to Leflore County, Mississippi. Broom was indicted there Monday on a capital murder charge in the death of his wife, 29-year-old Lakeyla Broom who was found dead in her Greenwood, Mississippi when a man called 911 saying that he had been tied up and stabbed. We’ve been telling you lately about a scam that’s been running in both Riley and Pottawatomie Counties where a caller tells a victim that a family member has been kidnapped and another incident took place this morning in Pottawatomie County. Sherriff Greg Riat tells KMAN a victim received multiple calls this morning that a family member had been kidnapped which begain an investigation. Senator Tom Hawk says he’s running for re-election. According to a press release, the senator from Manhattan filed with the Kansas Secretary of State’s Office for re-election to the 22nd District of the Senate, on Thursday. In the release, Hawk says, “It is a privilege to serve the people of the 22nd district in the Kansas Senate.” Prior to becoming a senator, Hawk spent 33 years working in the Manhattan-Ogden school district, working his way up from a junior high math teacher to superintendent. A man who was arrested after a series of thefts that caused an hours-long lock-down on the K-State campus in September has reached a plea deal. According to the Associated Press, 20-year-old Johnathon Ryan Elliott pleaded no contest to one count of aggravated robbery after reaching an agreement with prosecutors to drop five other counts. Authorities say that Elliott admitted he was a part of planning the robberies, provided transportation during them and that he had kept a portion of the stolen goods. In addittion, prosecutors agreed to seek the standard sentence for Elliott,  ranging from  5 to 19 years behind…

Officers with the Riley County Police Department arrested Wesley Moore, 25, of Junction City, Kansas on January 6, 2016 at approximately 7:30 PM while at the Riley County Police Department. Moore was arrested on a warrant from 2015 for the offenses of burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, and theft in Riley County. He was given a bond of $5,000.00. BALDWIN CITY — Fourteen dogs have died in a northeast Kansas house fire that their owner narrowly escaped. The Lawrence Journal-World reports that Kevin Matthews awoke Tuesday morning to smoke filling his room. He broke through a bedroom window of his home near the Douglas County town of Baldwin and jumped out. Matthews says he then flagged down a driver, who helped him call 911.
