A Manhattan man who was pursued on foot by Riley County police officers into City Park and apprehended by the use of TASER following a shooting in Aggieville during the early morning hours of May 3 was in the Riley County District Courthouse for pretrial procedures Tuesday afternoon. Mark Self, 31, pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted first degree in September. Self allegedly shot 26-year-old Kevin Green of Manhattan at 1:20 a.m. in the 600 block of North 12th Street. WICHITA — A new government report shows the Kansas winter wheat crop is faring mostly well so far this winter. Cattle and sheep are also mostly in good shape. The report released Monday by the National Agricultural Statistics Service comes after a month in which temperatures averaged six to eight degrees above normal across the eastern half of Kansas. Temperatures were closer to normal in the western half of the state in December. Winter wheat condition is rated as 8 percent excellent and 46 percent good. About 38 percent is rated fair, 7 percent as poor and 1 percent as very poor.…

TOPEKA —  Two counties are asking the state to reimburse them for legal expenses caused by sexually violent predators. The fees stem from cases where the individuals challenge their confinement to the state’s Sexual Predator Treatment Program at Larned State Hospital. Counties where the patients’ case originated must pay the legal costs. But in the past, the Attorney General’s office reimbursed the counties through a state fund. However, lawmakers didn’t appropriate any money for the fund during the current fiscal year. A Manhattan man found guilty by jury of attempted first degree murder was granted a delay in his sentencing Tuesday morning in the Riley County District Courthouse. Samuel Dartez, who was scheduled to be sentenced for the stabbing of a 27-year-old woman multiple times on Nov. 13, 2014, near the intersection of Juliette and Yuma streets, was granted the delay by Judge David Stutzman after Dartez’s defense attorney said he is still awaiting results from a mental evaluation of Dartez. Officers with the Riley County Police Department arrested Daniel Elmore, 34, of Manhattan on January 4th. Elmore was arrested for the offenses of failure to appear and giving a worthless check, while at the Riley County Police Department. These offenses were listed on warrants and carried a total bond of $13,000.00.

(8:20 p.m.) Update: An accident in Geary county Tuesday morning claimed the life of one Kansas woman and sent a Kansas man to the hospital. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2002 Chevy Impala was travelling eastbound on 12th street when it failed to yield at a stop sign and hit a 2003 Toyota Tacoma on the driver’s side. The driver of the Impala, identified as Gina Wetz (31) of Milford, lost her life. Wiley was the assistant dean for diversity and director of the diversity programs office in the College of Agriculture and K-State Research and Extension.
