The Riley County Police Department took into custody Christopher Curtis Harris, 28, of Manhattan, last night on 2 counts of perjury, and a 1st conviction of the violent offender registration act. At the time of this report, Harris was confined at Riley County jail with bond set at $15,000. Kelly Dustin Tessendor, 37, from Olathe was arrested under probable cause yesterday afternoon on 3 counts of a violation of the violent offender registration act. Bond was set at $15,000. Four inmates convicted in Geary and Pottawatomie County cases are up for public comment sessions and possible parole in the next few months: Zachary Manor, 30, was sentenced in Pottawatomie County in early 2010 for an aggravated indecent liberties case occurring Christmas Day 2008. He’s currently being held at Lansing. Jason Turner, 45, was sentenced in Geary County in early 1992 for first degree murder and kidnapping occurring in September of 1991. The Kansas Court of Appeals Friday affirmed a Pottawatomie County Court sentence in a 2014 indecent liberty case.  Sean Hardy, who was 26 at the time of the offenses, entered a plea of guilty to one count of indecent liberties with a child and one count of lewd and lascivious conduct. The indecent liberties with a child conviction resulted in  a sentence of lifetime post release supervision. Hardy filed a motion to challenge the sentence as unconstitutional. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) Voting rights groups are appealing a judge’s order which they say threatens to disenfranchise tens of thousands of voters in three states in the upcoming November elections. A notice of appeal filed Friday to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia seeks a quick review of the actions of a U.S. elections official who added proof-of-citizenship requirements on a federal mail-in voter registration form. AP-KS–LawnmowerDeath WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A 79-year-old Kansas man is dead after his riding lawnmower rolled into a creek near his Wichita home and trapped him underneath. The Wichita Eagle reports police responded to the 911 call around 3 p.m. Thursday after the man’s wife found him. Police spokeswoman Nikki Woodrow says he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Riley County Police Department filed a report for the offense of burglary Thursday afternoon. Officers listed the victim as Tyriq Dunmore, 20, of Fort Riley after several items were taken from a storage unit in the 6300 block of Tuttle Creek Blvd. The items taken included military equipment, a television, and a PlayStation 4 with controller. The total estimated loss was noted at being approximately $2,810. WICHITA– Wichita police say two men have died at an industrial accident in south Wichita. The accident was reported Thursday morning at Occidental Chemical Corporation. They were contract workers at the plant. The men were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names have not been released. Sedgwick County Sheriff Lt. Lin Dehning says a preliminary investigation indicates some of the men’s mechanical equipment failed. Dehning says no chemicals were released from the plant and the public was never in danger.

A Westmoreland man has been found not guilty of attempted second degree murder but guilty of aggravated battery following a three and a half day jury trial in Pottawatomie County Court. Travis Conder now faces a July 21st sentencing. Conder was arrested nearly a year ago–in August–after a shooting in Westmoreland. Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the 100 block of South fourth Street in Westmoreland early on a Sunday morning and found two individuals suffering from non-life threatening gunshot wounds. WICHITA– A new government report shows Kansas growers planted this spring more of their fields into corn and soybeans, and put in fewer acres of sorghum. The National Agricultural Statistics Service said Thursday that Kansas farmers planted 4.8 million acres in corn, an increase of 16 percent compared to a year ago. About 95 percent were biotechnology varieties. Also up in the state are soybean acres. The agency said Kansas had 4.15 million acres seeded in soybeans, an increase of 6 percent compared to last year. Plantings this spring of sorghum are down 7 percent to 3.15 million acres.
