The K-State College of Business will dedicate its new building Friday afternoon. The college expects over 1,000 people to attend the dedication. Those in attendance will be able to tour the new building, hear tunes from the marching band and snack on food. The new building is a substantial improvement over Calvin Hall, where the College of Business was previously housed. The new $55 million building has 20 new classrooms, 51 individual study rooms, advanced technology and designated spaces for individual majors. SALINA — Weather officials are evaluating damage after multiple tornadoes touched down in rural areas of central Kansas. The National Weather Service says twisters were spotted in Saline, Dickinson, Clay, Cowley, Labette and Allen counties. No injuries were reported in the storm that started Thursday afternoon. But in Saline County, at least one home was destroyed and two other properties were damaged. There also were reports of damaged sheds and power lines. Crews began working Friday to determine the number and strength of the tornadoes. The line of storms that swept through the area also generated wind gusts of up to 65…

When he’s not busy catching criminals and cracking cases, it turns out Geary county sheriff Tony Wolf has a lesser-known talent — eating brisket. On Oct. 1, Wolf and four other competitors chowed down at Cox Brothers BBQ to help the establishment celebrate their five-year anniversary. And celebrate they did. Riley County commissioners were updated on the local housing market Thursday. County appraiser Greg McHenry told the commission positive trends continue. There were 1,051 real estate sales in 2015 through Sept. 30. The median sale price for homes was $187,500, compared to $188,00 at the same point last year. The average sale price was $206,319, compared to $202,881 at this point a year ago. “Our median sales ratio, which of course is one of the state’s measurements of our performance, is currently at 97 percent,” McHenry said. “If you remember, at the beginning of the year, we are at 99…

HESSTON — A chemical spilled at a plant in south-central Kansas, sending about a half dozen people to the hospital. The Hutchinson News reports that the spill occurred Thursday morning at the GVL Poly Plant in Hesston. Gary Denny, director of emergency management for Harvey County, says a building at the plant was evacuated after a breach of a container with a chemical used in manufacturing coolers. He says the chemical polymethylene polyphenyl isocyanate can be hazardous if it’s inhaled. He says it’s unclear how much escaped. The logistics of an upcoming Nov. 30 public forum are becoming more clear for the administration at USD 383. At Wednesday’s board meeting, President Marcia Rozell was able to clarify the format of the upcoming session which will give the public an opportunity to issue their opinions on the controversial Manhattan high school mascot.
