An assailant stabbed five people as students headed to class at a rural university campus in California before police shot and killed him. Police cars and ambulances maintained a presence around campus following the attack.

ABILENE, Kan. (AP) A 6-year-old girl has died after she was struck by a vehicle in northeast Kansas. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports the accident occurred Tuesday while the child was walking along an intersection in Abilene. The Kansas Highway Patrol identified the victim as Tayla M. Womochil, of Abilene. The patrol says the sport utility vehicle was turning left at an intersection when the girl was struck. She was taken to a hospital where she died.
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A Wichita man has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison after hitting a just-married groom at an IHOP last August. District Attorney Marc Bennett says 23-year-old Oliver Bradwell was sentenced Oct. 21 to 45 months in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated battery in July. The Wichita Eagle reports that newly married Omar Galaviz-Hernandez and his wife, whose name was not provided, were eating at an east-side IHOP in their wedding clothes. LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) The Kansas Board of Regents is soliciting comments from state universities about a proposal to allow people to have concealed guns on their campuses but not carry the weapons openly. The Lawrence Journal World reports that a regents committee has drafted a proposed policy and the full board hopes to vote on it in December. A 2013 state law says adults 21 and older who can carry concealed guns can bring them into public buildings unless those buildings have security measures such as metal detectors. Riley County Police arrested a Wamego man for aggravated assault following a Tuesday evening incident. Patrick Arrow, 21, was taken into custody at approximately 6:00 PM after an incident in the 55 block of Power Line Place in Manhattan. Police found that Sean Northrop, 45, of Manhattan was the victim when a verbal argument during a traffic dispute escalated. Police heard allegations of a handgun being brandished and were able to develop probable cause and make the arrest. Arrow was given a bond of $8,000.
With the Kansas State University football game scheduled for Thursday night, out-of-town fans and Manhattan residents hoping to get home after work may experience traffic delays. Areas around Bill Snyder Family Stadium and the major streets that lead to it, including Anderson Avenue, Denison Avenue, College Avenue, Kimball Avenue and North Manhattan Avenue, will be congested. Chickens aren’t welcome in the city limits of Wamego at this time. At Tuesday’s City Commission meeting, City Manager Merl Page reviewed the ordinance establishing provisions governing the keeping of chickens within the city limits. The ordinance would allow ownership of chickens, up to 4, at a single family residence. No roosters would be allowed. The food must be kept in rodent-free containers. Ownership of chickens would be subject to annual review, and the chickens and their eggs could only be consumed by the owners.
