Kansas State University Police and emergency personnel from the Manhattan Fire Department and Riley County EMS responded to the Seaton Hall construction site on the Manhattan campus for a workplace accident shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday. A male worker was injured after a fall at the construction site. He was taken to Manhattan’s Via Christi Hospital. Members of the K-State Environmental Health and Safety team also responded. The accident is under investigation.

The 2016 Solar Car Challenge makes a stop in Manhattan for the day. High School students from all over the country have been making their way from state to state in these solar powered cars they built themselves.  As drive to their destination Minneapolis, Minnesota, the students made a pit stop to work on their cars and talk to the media. The Wamego City Commission heard the results of the 2015 audit at Tuesday’s meeting. City Manager Merl Page introduced Reece and Novelly’s Michele Morton, who went over the 2015 audit for the City of Wamego. According to Morton, the audit showed no unmodified opinions and no major changes in the City’s cash position from last year. In the auditor’s notes, Morton said there were no non-compliance issues and no deficiencies. However, the auditors did suggest some procedural changes in the Police Department, Library and Fire Department. Officers with the Riley County Police Department filed a report for arson in the 600 block of Kearney Street on Wednesday at approximately 4:30 AM. Police on scene found a roll off construction dumpster had been set on fire cause approximately $500 worth of damage. The fire was set by an unknown subject(s) and police are asking anything with information to contact the Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. Manhattan Fire Department extinguished the flames with no damage to surrounding structures.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The Latest on the shooting of a police officer in Kansas City, Kansas (all times local): 5:20 p.m. A spokesman for the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives says the agency has about 20 agents on the scene of a fatal shooting of a Kansas City, Kansas, officer. A prominent Manhattan businessman and former K-State back-up quarterback Zachary Burton was in the Riley County District Courthouse for a status hearing Tuesday afternoon. Burton, who owns Fieldhouse Development, Inc., was arrested on four counts of unlawful sexual relations with a female student on June 7. Burton, 38, will return to court Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. for a preliminary hearing in front of Judge William Malcolm.
