The U-S Attorney’s Office in Wichita announced several indictments Wednesday, including that of Juwuan Jackson, 18, who lives on the Fort Riley Army base. Jackson is charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter. The indictment alleges that on Sept. 11th, Jackson handled a firearm in a reckless manner resulting in the death of Kenyon Givens, 16, who also lived on Fort Riley. Jackson initially was charged in a criminal complaint filed Sept. 16th in U.S. District Court in Topeka. If convicted, Jackson faces a maximum penalty of eight years in federal prison. A replacement project began on the K-18 Bridge located 4.5 miles east of the K-77 junction or 2.32 miles west of Zeandale in Riley County. Project work includes removal of the existing 41.1-foot simple steel beam bridge with a 28-foot wide roadway which will be replaced with a new 24-foot by 32-foot by 24-foot reinforced concrete haunch slab bridge with a 36-foot wide roadway. Work will take place during daylight hours, Monday through Friday, with some occasional Saturday work. No life-threatening injuries were reported but at around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, a KDOT mowing tractor operator was traveling next to the guardrail on westbound I-70 ramp lane just east of the McFarland exit 330 in Wabaunsee County, when a cargo van suddenly struck the mower from behind and overturned. The KDOT mower operator reported being pretty shook up from the impact of the crash, but sustained no reported injuries. A Manhattan man came before Pottawatomie County Court Tuesday on the State’s motion to revoke probation. Anthony Brazzle stipulated to being in violation of his probation. The state requested Brazzle’s probation be revoked and he be remanded to the Department of Corrections to serve his original 22 month sentence. The court revoked the defendant’s probation, but reinstated his probation for a period of 12 months with an additional condition that he successfully complete an inpatient treatment program. Police in Riley County arrested a Riley man on a drug-related charge. Randy Siebold Sr., 54, was taken into custody Tuesday at approximately 1:45 PM while in the 17,000 block of Bala Road. Siebold was arrested on a warrant with the offense of possession of opiates, opium, or narcotic drugs or certain stimulants and given a bond of $7,000. ### A Texas woman was taken into custody by Riley County Police on a Pottawatomie County warrant. Fort Riley emergency services responded to a report of a vehicle off the road near Caisson Hill Road on post at approximately 6:05 pm Tuesday, and discovered the body of an unidentified person inside. Fort Riley police and Special Agents from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command are currently investigating. Processing the area will require the closure of Caisson Hill Road between E Street and the Ammunition Supply Point through September 23 (Wednesday). A 21-year-old Wichita man has waived his preliminary hearing in Pottawatomie County District Court on theft and obstruction charges. James Shirley was arrested earlier this month following a stolen vehicle case reported in the Oak View area of St. George. Shirley’s status hearing has been set for September 29th. Shirley and Dalton Flax, 19, also of Wichita, were both taken into custody in the case, with bond set at $50,000 each.
