Sarah Mitchell and Rebekah Rowley, both aides at College Hill earned their Child Development Associates Credentials and were commended by Superintendent Bob Shannon for their work. The area emergency responders will be honored at a special picnic sponsored by Wamego’s First United Methodist Church. The Wamego City Commission granted the church’s request to use the park at Tuesday night’s regular meeting. Federal prosecutors Wednesday filed an involuntary manslaughter charge against a Riley County man in connection with a shooting death at Fort Riley. Juwan Jackson, 18 who lives on the Fort Riley base, is charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter. A criminal complaint alleges that on Sept. 11th, Jackson handled a firearm in a reckless manner, resulting in the shooting death of Kenyon Givens, 16, who also lived on Fort Riley. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A man is in critical condition after being shot by a sheriff’s deputy in Wichita. According to Sedgwick County sheriff’s Lt. Lin Dehning, a deputy was investigating someone who seemed suspicious Tuesday afternoon when the deputy fired shots and the man was struck in the abdomen. The man was transported to a hospital. Dehning said someone called authorities about a suspicious person around 4:20 p.m. Dehning says the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is still trying to determine whether someone in the area of the incident made the report or if the deputy investigated on his own. OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (AP) A man has been found dead outside a bar in the Kansas City suburb of Overland Park. KSHB-TV reports that police said they responded early Wednesday to an armed disturbance. The victim was found in the parking lot of The Roxy. The man’s name and his cause of death weren’t immediately released. Authorities are seeking a suspect who left in a large red truck. Anyone with information is urged to call authorities.
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) Court documents are offering a glimpse at the early impact of the gay marriage ruling in Kansas. The latest filing Tuesday from state officials comes in the lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the Kansas ban on same-sex marriages. A federal judge has ruled the state’s ban is unconstitutional in the wake of the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized such unions nationwide.
