Two motions were presented at a motions hearing Wednesday morning in Riley County District Court for a  Manhattan man facing charges which include involuntary manslaughter while DUI. The State has submitted a motion to admit statements by the defendant Ryan Routson. The Defense is requesting suppression of KBI lab results from Routson’s blood test. Evidence was presented regarding the defendant’s statements and an argument was made regarding the blood test. Judge David Stutzman took the matters under advisement and will prepare an order at an unspecified date. Routson also faces charges of aggravated battery while DUI along with unlawful possession of methamphetamine.…

A Black Hawk had to make what’s being called a precautionary landing Wednesday night. U-S Army Public Affairs reports that at approximately 9:15 p.m. a UH-60 Black Hawk made a precautionary landing in a field about 5 miles south of Fort Riley. None of the four crew members were injured. The Black Hawk crew is from the 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division and was on a training mission. The incident is under investigation.

Board members approved salary and health care coverage increases for classified and administrative employees in Wednesday night’s Manhattan/Ogden regular public meeting. However, Superintendent Bob Shannon and others appeared apologetic for the amount of these increases. “It’s lower, I think, than any of us would prefer,” Shannon mentioned before a final board vote, “I don’t need to tell you about the difficulties of rolling into this budget year from last year and what it’s taken to do that. Dozens of students, faculty, and K-State supporters gathered in Bosco Plaza on Wednesday afternoon for a groundbreaking ceremony at the K-State Student Union. President Kirk Schulz, Dean of Students Pat Bosco, Union Director Bill Smirga and members of K-State’s Student Government Association overturned dirt to mark the beginning of a two-year process that will propel the building into the future. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) The family of a 23-year-old Wichita man who was fatally shot by police is demanding $10 million in damages. Supporters are also demanding the Justice Department investigate the killing of John Paul Quintero. Sunflower Community Action says in a news release that supporters plan to deliver on Wednesday a petition with nearly 90,000 signatures to the local FBI office.
