Manhattan sales tax numbers are stronger than they’ve been in recent months, with $981,939 collected in May, which is higher than the $917,647 the same time last year and much higher than last month’s $838,056. That puts the net budget impact on the positive side for the first time since February, with a $13,551 amount for the month. However the budget is still $68,025 behind the yearly budget projections. Developing story: A Riley County USD 378 employee is reportedly involved in some type of Riley County Police investigation. While RCPD officials have not yet been available for an official comment, USD 378 Interim Superintendent Nancy Meyer confirmed with KMAN that her district is working with the Riley County Police as they investigate the matter. K-State’s Manhattan, Polytechnic and Olathe campuses will be revising the tuition rate increase to 5.81 percent to offset the higher than expected state general fund reduction recently announced by the governor.  If approved, the estimated revenue from the proposed tuition increases would generate approximately $11.7 million to fund key priorities. The Board of Regents is scheduled to approve the tuition increases at its June 15 meeting. DODGE CITY, Kan. (AP) – The National Weather Service says a large tornado in Kansas that was on the ground for nearly an hour and a half missed a small town by about a mile. Meteorologist Chad Omitt says the tornado formed just after 7 p.m. near the Ottawa County community of Niles. He says it stayed on the ground continuously as it moved into Dickinson County.
