The Kansas Board of Regents announced its pick for interim president of Kansas State University Thursday. Gen. Richard B. Myers will take the position. Myers has served as the principal military adviser to the President of the United States, Secretary of Defense, and the National Security Council. More information on the retired U.S. Air Force General’s appointment, will be released next week during a press conference. Myers will fill the void left by outgoing president Kirk Schulz, who, as previously reported, accepted an offer to be the new president at Washington State University on March 25.

FORT RILEY — A 1st Infantry Divisions soldier who died in Manhattan has been identified. Capt. Yohan Lee, a chaplain assigned to the 3rd Assault Helicopter Battalion, 1st Aviation Regiment, 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Inf. Div., died suddenly April 9. He was 45. Lee arrived at Fort Riley in January 2014, entering the Army from Virginia. He was a Manhattan resident. “Our hearts are heavy today over the loss of Chap. Lee,” said Col. John M. An out of control prescribed burn saw fire crews from Randolph, Riley County, and Leonardville responding to the area of Barton Road on Wednesday. Crews battled the blaze from noon until nearly 11 p.m. Riley County Fire Chief, Pat Collins says the total number of acres burned is still to be determined. According to Collins, April has seen eight days of no burning in the region. Despite burn bans, over 16,000 acres of land have been burned as a result of controlled burning that’s gotten out of hand.

A Manhattan couple injured in an early April car accident have died. Ronald Montgomery, 81, died from his injuries Monday. His wife, Marlene Montgomery, 78, passed away on April 7. The couple were injured in an accident in Topeka. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a vehicle ran a stop sign at I-70 one mile east of Marshall Field and hit the couple’s car as it exited the interstate. The Montgomery’s held the right of way. Funeral services will be held on Saturday.

On April 13, 2016 at approximately 10:40 PM officers with the Riley County Police Department arrested Mark Burghart, 49, of Leavenworth, Kansas. Burghart was arrested while at the Riley County Police Department on a warrant for aggravated burglary and burglary to a vehicle. He was given a bond of $20,000.00 and at the time of this report was confined at the Riley County Jail. This warrant stems from an incident in June 2015 within Riley County.

OLATHE — A former suburban Kansas City high school teacher has been ordered to serve 30 days in jail as part of her probation for having sex with a 16-year-old student. The Kansas City Star reports that 33-year-old Jeana Marie Fleming was sentenced Tuesday in Johnson County District Court for unlawful sexual relations. Fleming also will be required to register as a sex offender. Fleming and the boy had sex in December 2014 while she taught in the Olathe school district’s alternative education program for high school students. OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (AP) A suburban dream-home prototype that was built in the 1950s has completed its nine-mile journey to a new location in suburban Kansas City. The Johnson County Museum’s All-Electric House began its journey Tuesday night in Shawnee. It arrived early Wednesday at the new Johnson County Arts and Heritage Center in Overland Park, where it will be the centerpiece of a new exhibition. The ranch house was built in Prairie Village as a model show house for Kansas City Power & Light, which later donated the structure. It has been carefully restored.
