An unidentified man was arrested near the White House Thursday after a drone landed in a park close to the residence of the President. It’s the second time this year there’s been an incident at or near the White House involving drones as one actually landed on the White House grounds in January. Another drone landed near the Capitol earlier this spring.

A man arrested nearly two years ago after an eight-month old child died at a Kansas City Hospital was found guilty of felony murder, aggravated battery and child abuse in Geary County Court Thursday afternoon. Christopher Lyman’s jury trial began last week and concluded on Thursday with jury deliberations.  KMAN received word of the guilty verdict around 4:45 on Thursday. This incident is said to have happened in September of 2013.  The child was taken to Geary Community Hospital for injuries at that time, but was ultimately taken by helicopter to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. An overwhelming amount of area businesses have “help wanted” signs in their windows, according to Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce President, Lyle Butler.  According to Butler, almost all of these businesses are retail or restaurants. During his economic development update to Riley County Commissioners on Thursday, Butler expressed a large need for part time employees within the Manhattan area.  He stated it’s unusual that the jobs previously occupied by many young college kids are no longer being filled, particularly life-guarding jobs. On May 28, at the Manhattan community blood drive, area resident Clifton Meloan is scheduled to make his 152nd American Red Cross blood donation. Since each donation is approximately one pint, Meloan’s 152 donations translate into 19 gallons of lifesaving blood. A Fort Riley man facing a voluntary manslaughter charge in Riley County made the request in county court on Thursday morning for his defense attorney to withdraw from the case.  A preliminary hearing was set to take place, however, Tierre Wall’s attorney, Larry McRell informed Judge David Stutzman of the change in plans. An affidavit released in March described details regarding an alleged road rage incident involving Wall, which resulted in a shot hitting Casey Lindley in the head.
